Pet Products

With China’s increasing standard of living, the pet industry has experienced a noticeable rise as more and more people are having enough disposable income available to spend on pets, which are becoming more and more adopted as members of Chinese families. Surveys have shown that from 1999 to 2007, number of pets in households increased by nearly 500% and by 2010 the number will have risen to a total of 150 million for the country. This strong domestic demand shows promise for the future of the pet product manufacturing industry, as it establishes a strong reliable base of consumer demand for the long term.

China’s export production of pet products are mainly provided to the United States and the Nordic countries with the main products being: collars, leashes, clothes, toys, dog leather goods, dental health products, as well as decorative and recreational items for cages and smaller animals such as turtles.

When the industry was first developing, the exporting companies were mainly located in Shanghai, Shandong, and Zhejiang. Currently major pet stores and an established pet industry in Shanghai and Beijing have become a major force in the development of the pet market in China.

Currently the export oriented manufacturing is distributed along the east coast of China particularly in the areas of Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Shanghai, with domestic consumption being focused in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Chengdu.

CPG has been sourcing in this area since 2000, being involved in the production primarily of: Pet Toys, Pet Carriers, Pet Accessories, and Pet Clothing.
