By 2001, China had not only surpassed the US in dollar value of industrial output, the success for which China is most known, but also in agricultural output. As a percentage of total economic output, the agriculture sector accounts for 9.6% of GDP in 2010, however employed 39.5% of the population, compared to 27.2% and 33.2% for industry and services respectively. China’s major agricultural products are rice, wheat, potatoes, corn, peanuts, tea, millet, barley, apples, cotton, oilseed, pork, and fish.
